Theme # 28 "Blue"

This junk yard is right up the street from the old church in Yaphank which I posted below. Nothing special just an Old Blue VW dating back to the mid-fifty's. The battery was still there and it was 6-volts and the tail lamps were the very small ones which dates this VW back to the 1950's. Back in 1960's I had a 1956 VW Bug and used it to commute back and forth to work.

  1. "The Bug" is a great shot. To bad it is in such bad shape. My Dad had a powder blue VW I got to learn to drive a stick shift on. My friends and I had some fun times in it.

  2. You captured the colors brilliantly - this is a fabulous shot! My first car was a "baha" bug my dad built for me out of old VW parts. He souped it up and painted it aqua blue w/ hot pink hand prints all over it. Across the back said "BarbieMobile" - my car was the hit of all the girls LOL

  4. Great shot. I had my first VW Bug in 1960. There was no gas guage and you would be driving along and all of the sudden it would start sputtering and you had to "kick" down a lever and there was an extra gallon of gas. It was fun to see how far you could get on that gallon of gas!!

  5. Wonderful evocative shot, you could have called it 'iconic' too.

  6. Aren't these wonderful old cars? My grandpa had a "newer" 1974 bug and when they got down to needing only one car, he donated it to the American Lung Association (early 1990s). He said he had many neighbors scolding him for "giving away" an old classic.
